Guest Lecture
Join us for a lecture by Professor Jae Takeuchi, faculty member in Indiana University’s Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. Drawing on her expertise in Japanese sociolinguistics, second language acquisition, and language pedagogy, she will guide us through the rich world of Japanese speech styles—from regional dialects to the intricate system of keigo (honorific language).

Improving JSA
Meet, discuss, and share ideas with other JSA boards and members from across the Midwest to improve your universities JSA. Each school will have a representative present their schools JSA events, structure, and any other information the school would like to share. This will be followed by a group discussions regarding different topics.

Rakugo with Katsura Sunshine (桂三輝) – a world-renowned master storyteller known for bringing traditional Japanese comic tales all the way to Broadway.
Kyogen – traditional Japanese farce theater performed by students practicing the Ōkura school, Yamamoto family style. -

If you have a complete group of 4 and are booking directly through Fairfield, it will be 140 dollars pre-tax per room per night (about 70 dollars per person for two nights pre-tax). You will find the Fairfield hotel reservation link in the conference registration form. If you have any questions, please call the hotel and mention the MJSA room block.
If you do NOT have a complete group of 4 and are booking through our website, the cost will be 80 dollars pre-tax per person for two nights.

To request a roommate, please write the other person’s full name in the designated text box during checkout. For groups that total four people, please fill out the link in the registration form or call the phone number listed in the description and pay Fairfield directly.
If you have less than four people, you and your requested roommates may have randomly assigned roommates to equal a total of four people. When assigning roommates, we may also ask your gender identity in case you/another attendee are randomly placed. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Travel Reimbursement
MJSA will reimburse a portion of the travel cost (one way). The value of the reimbursement is determined by the distance from your respective university to Indiana University Bloomington multiplied by the IRS mileage rate of $0.14 per mile for a charitable organization. (Per car for at least 4 people, including the driver.)
